What can you expect from counselling?

To seek assistance when you know you need it is an act of courage. It is the act of getting your act together. It is a sign of strength to decide to face what you fear and turn problems into opportunities. Counselling enables you to explore your emotions, beliefs, relationships, and circumstances. As a society, we are typically uncomfortable with “negative” feelings. The reality is that emotions just are.  They exist.  We all have them.  Problems arise when we assign values of good or bad, positive or negative to them.

We are also socialized to judge ourselves and others, to give advice, to talk instead of listen, and to avoid, deny or dismiss when uncomfortable. An effective counsellor listens with respect and supports you to clarify your goals and make your decisions. An effective counsellor provides a safe place to share from the heart.

To promote inner empathy, I use the somatic therapy of Focusing, pioneered by Eugene Gendlin. Focusing accesses the felt senses to discover more than is known intellectually and to break through stuck or habitual patterns of experiencing. Focusing is exceptionally helpful to contact and regulate emotions and cultivate self-awareness from a place of safety.

What is hypnosis and how can it help?

Hypnosis is a state of selective focus. It is easy and natural, and you experience it spontaneously whenever you focus internally, like when you daydream. It also happens when you intently focus on something such as a hobby, reducing awareness of your surroundings.

Hypnosis happens when you bypass the conscious, critical faculty of your mind and focus in the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind automatically controls bodily functions, automates repetitive actions to become habits, assigns emotions to our experiences, and stores our memories. By accessing the subconscious through hypnosis, you can change habits, reframe perspectives on experiences, and motivate yourself for positive change. By accessing your feelings and imagination in hypnosis, you can achieve your goals and realize your expectations. If you subconsciously believe you will succeed, your subconscious will turn that belief into a reality. The reverse is also true.

While you are in hypnosis you can remain alert to your surroundings. If a suggestion is given by another that you do not want, you can resist it. You are always in control in hypnosis. In fact, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis.

Do I facilitate Past Life Regression?

Yes. Age Regression and Past Life Regression are hypnotic techniques that I use when appropriate and upon request. These techniques can allow the subconscious mind to discover and release the cause of a problem. The imagination is the language of the subconscious, and it can be used to journey through space and time.

With hypnosis, you can also journey into the future to imagine the life you prefer. This does not mean that by imagining you are indulging in unrealistic fantasy or hallucinating. The imagination is a resource of the inner mind. It allows us to form images and symbols that emerge from memory, experience, knowledge, intuition and insight. This resource has been used to create art, music, literature, and make scientific discoveries and technological inventions. What is the source of insight, intuition and inspiration? That is for you to discover.

Can hypnosis help with medical/dental procedures or chronic pain?

Yes. If you have chronic pain, or if you need to better manage pain or anxiety for palliative care, medical or dental procedures, hypnosis may benefit you. It is proven to be effective for pain relief and produces no negative side-effects. Hypnosis can also be used to promote healing and the efficacy of medications.
